Ecuador’s topography is unique and its climate warm. Located on the western side of South America, it borders the Pacific Ocean on its western side, Colombia on its Northern side, and Peru on its Southern and Eastern borders. The Galapagos Islands, which are a part of Ecuador, are West of it, in the Pacific Ocean. In the South-Western part of this country, coming from the Pacific Ocean, the Gulf of Guayaquil cuts into Ecuador. The Equator runs right through Ecuador, which is where its name originates from, so temperatures are generally warm and tropical. Because of this, there aren’t many seasonal changes, except for Ecuador's dry and wet seasons. On the coast, temperatures can range from 80-90° F, while Ecuador’s capital, Quito, reaches temperatures of around 75° F during the day, and about 50° F later in the night.
Ecuador has three main climates and topographical regions: the Costa, which is the region of plains on its west coast; the Sierra, which is the central region and is where the Andes Mountains run through; the Oriente, which lies on its Eastern borders and is made of jungle and is considered Ecuador’s “Amazonian” region. Aside from the Andes mountains, Mount Chimborazo is Ecuador's tallest mountain, other mountains include: Cotopaxi Volcano and Pichincha Volcano, all three being over 4,500 meters in height. All of this makes Ecuador’s geography unique, intriguing, and beautiful.
